• David Kaltenbach has spent a lifetime chasing risk in search of something worth telling. As a career surfer, he traveled three-quarters of the way around the globe hunting waves — dropping into swells he probably had no business taking off on, and coming up the other side with a kind of courage that doesn't come from a classroom. Those journeys, often solo, through unfamiliar coastlines and cultures, became the training ground for the character that defines him today: adventurous, resilient, unwilling to stay down.

He carried watercolor paints on those early trips, sketching the world as he moved through it. But it was standing in the dense jungle of Costa Rica, listening to the terrifying belch of howler monkeys somewhere in the canopy, that David had the thought that redirected his life: I wish I had a camera. That single moment launched a career as a film and video producer/director — a path that, like surfing, demanded he keep showing up after the wipeouts, the failed pitches, and the projects that didn't make it to the screen.
